go out to his family and friends. Presentation Night was held last night, which was attended
by possibly the best numbers we have had for a while, maybe due to the
The Amazing Gazzhard performing. We had many people who wanted to give
it a go but R.Lee (I Love Elmo), Weare (with the longest you know what),
Lamby (3 + 1 = 5), Tappy (who loved Head), Boo (Red Bull gives me wings),
Moose's sister (great Robot dancing, and hip wiggling), Robot (with
his cute little German Sheppard), Maxy (with the killer green wasps)
and David Riddell-Roberston (with his varied sleeping positions). Well
done by all a great night was had. Congratulations to the 1st XI
Congratulations to the 1st XI & 6th XI on their grand final win on the weekend and commiserations to the 2nd XI. What a massive year for the club with both the premiership sides going one better this year. Well done to all those involved and lets celebrate at the Presentation Night coming up.

It’s a great effort by the club and we need all players/supporters at the grounds supporting us. Training usual days/times this week. 1st XI – Long Island vs Ballam Park @ Home 12.30pm Start 2nd XI – Long Island vs Crib Point @ Crib Point
12.30pm Start 6th XI – Long Island vs Baden Powell @ Havana Cres 12.30pm start It looks like Scotty Phillips 10/44 is a MPCA record, the best Provincial 1st XI bowling since Barry Murray from MORNINGTON took 9/25 against Karingal way back in round 6 1972/73 Scott Phillips took an LICC record 10/44 on the weekend
off 28 overs against Sorrento in Provincial 1s. Some other notable performances came from our juniors playing senior cricket with young Aaron Paxton making a chanceless 130* in Provincial 2nds and Lachlan Volpe hitting 155 in the 6s in quick time. Congratulations to Paul Hartle, Michael Burke & Greg Lamb for winning the Victorian Country Week representing the MPCA. In the final Ballarat needed 9 runs off 12 balls and Arnie took 3 wickets in an over to win the game to finish with 6/29 off 10 overs. Butthead also finished up with 2nd top score for MPCA. On another note, well done to M Burke, G Lamb & S Phillips for representing both the MPCA & MPNFL in their respective representative sides. Not too many players out there would have achieved such a feat. MPCA Win Country Week, with Arni the destroyer, read more The Grand-Final was held today at The Albert in Albert Park between the MPCA First Eleven and Ballarat, and I have just got to tell you of the most remarkable game I have seen in ages or maybe ever. The MPCA, at the end of 50 overs was 9/195 with the pitch doing strange things during the day and not many high scores were obtained. With 196 needed by Ballarat for a win, it was initially thought that this may not be enough but Ballarat took to the field and Adeel Hussain took the first wicket with Ballarat on a blob. This naturally excited us all. The match went backward and forward all day long with our hopes high and then down in the dumps as runs were scored. It wasn’t until the 49th over when things got interesting. Ballarat only needed 10 runs off two overs and had 3 Wickets in hand and as you can imagine, we weren’t very hopeful but were sitting there and just hoping something dramatic would happen. Poor old Peter and Laurie were pacing up and down and could barely look. Thommo was keeping us up to date with the number of runs needed and the number of balls still to be bowled. Then along came Paul Hartle (Arni) about to bowl his last over of the day with one over to follow to end the game. Well in came Arni and bowled the first ball, and bingo got a wicket. Ballarat then scored one off the next ball. On Arni’s third ball we were really raising a sweat because Arni was hit for a Four leaving Ballarat on 5 runs to get off 9 balls. The Third ball was a dot. The Fourth ball really got the old heart beating fast because Arni got another Wicket, Ballarat are now needing 5 Runs off 7 balls to win with one wicket in hand. Arni then goes back to his mark and steams in and, wallah, gets the last wicket, giving Arni bowling figures of 3/5 off the 49th Over and a match total of 6/29. I did hear the comment that Arni deserves a knighthood for his final over. What a great effort. By this time our hearts have about failed but we hung in there and enjoyed a beer after the game.... I think the boys may have one or two tonight as well. It was a most remarkable game and definitely not one for faint hearted. (Report by Dave Bennett)

Unfortunately the 1s lost on the last ball of the day on Saturday, the 2s had a strong win with Doc back with a timely 64 with Middo making 64*. Bickers chimed in with a 6 fa. The 3s made light-work of a big target with young Paxo making 80* and Tommy doing a hamstring that sounded like a shot-gun going off and Khany taking 5 fa. The 4s after their team meeting had a great win with Hatchy making 79 and Nifty taking 3/5. The 5s unfortunately had a loss whilst the 6s just keep on winning. Plenty of teams with the opportunity to be in the 4 come March. Pressure is on the spots so get to training. Well done to Cocko who played his 100th game against

Some fantastic results on the weekend with the 2s winning after young David Maxfield made 169 (highest score on the new ground) and Moose backing up with 6 wickets the week after. The 3s won outright without losing a wicket and continue on their winning ways and the 6s rolled a side for 40 at the home of cricket.

Not a great result Round 1 for LICC with only the 3s getting the chocolates but there’s another game this week! Unfortunately the 1s had a bad day with the bat and failed to make a quick breakthrough last weekend and were always going to find it tough. In the 2s, Mornington batted well the first week but we certainly didn’t apart from Scrappy & Boo. Rlee was back in town with a 5 fa rolling Baden Powell for 114 and chasing it down on the second day with young Daniel Heyne batting well. The 4s had a weekend to forget with Delacombe Park chasing the outright but we hung on with Hatchy making valuable contributions in both innings. The 6s didn’t play due to an unsuitable pitch – perhaps a few of the older players were up there the night before. Selection night this Thursday with meals on and a special interview. See you then!
