Arnie plays his 300th senior game for our club this weekend & we
will always be forever grateful & proud of his impact
on & off the field for making the club what it was, what it is and
what it will be.
Arns contribution to the club has been nothing short of phenomenal over
a long period of time (93/94 onwards)
leading our club for 11 years as Captain/Coach & playing in 6 1st
XI premierships (we'll never forget that 6..) to still playing now.
His stats up to this week read;

Striker passed the milestone in his 254th senior game with a batting
average of 26 alongside hs 6 x 100's with a high score of 141
which sits nicely besides his 6 x 1st XI premierships, 3 x 2nd XI flags

A message from the coaches
Howdy all,
We're getting closer to Round 1 - Josh & Rob have released their
roadmap to R1 below. Whilst not officially confirmed, we can pencil
in Round 1 for all senior grades on Saturday November 13.
Full club training starts from next Tuesday night. It's a limited preseason
due to COVID and whilst people have been getting some training in small
groups lately, the hard work starts next week! Access to the rooms is
for toilet only but we'll be able to serve a post training beverage
to outside if the weather permits. We'll have full access to the rooms
once we hit 80% double dose come late October. There's still no confirmation
either way from the government on vaccination status for playing but
we encourage you to get the jab to protect yourself & your team-mates
and we will strictly enforce any gov mandates around community sport.
Clothing orders will be available to pick up from next week.. we will
need payment for baggy caps and/or vests before we release. Vests are
likely another week away though - can only wear them at 80% double dose.
So far, we have 33 player sponsors which is an amazing effort! Well
done to all those who have made the effort to find one ?? - still plenty
of time to get one so keep trying - $100 off your fees! On the fee structure,
it'll be released later this week - early payment encouraged as always.
Any questions, let me know otherwise see you all soon

Good morning all,
After the news on the weekend that cricket training will be permitted
in small groups,
it’s time to get our heads around pre-season training, and the
fact that Round 1 is potentially only 7 weeks away!
In a normal scenario, at this point in time before our first official
game we would’ve had at least had a week or two of pre-season
training, so we are already behind. It will most likely be another month
before we are able to train in large groups again, so this next 4-5
weeks is crucial to our preparation for the upcoming season.
The current government restrictions (predicted to be) starting Sunday
26th September allow for training to occur between 5 people from 2 two
different households. Whilst this may be beneficial to some, we understand
that most of you will only be able to train with one other person.
With this in mind, we encourage you to try and do the following at least
once a week:
60-90 minute session
Slow jog and run through's before you start any skill work. 5 mins
Bats to get plenty of throw downs and drop balls to get the feet moving
and feel bat on ball (don't go straight into a standard bat vs bowler
scenario). 10 mins each
Bowlers to do plenty of stretching and warm up accordingly. Maybe start
with some 'one step' bowling into the net or half way down the wicket
to ease in. 5-10 mins
Bat vs Bowler: Bats to concentrate on protecting wicket early. Aim for
at least 5 mins of not getting out before trying some more aggressive
shots. Bowlers to work on line and length (5th stump) with stock ball.
Look to introduce variations in later sessions. 10-15 mins each
50 underarm catches each and 20 overarm throws at the stumps from the
bowlers end.
Keepers: 50-100 catches from various lengths, including half volleys
and throws on the full. Try some from crouched positions to start conditioning
glutes and quads.
Extras
Try some running in your pads. Sprints of 1s, 2s and 3s between the
creases.
10-15 minute jog
More catches and ground ball fielding. Don't go too hard on the throwing.
Whilst its important to get back into training, let's make sure we don't
over do it (bowlers particularly)! Listen to your body and if you're
feeling sore, don't push it.
If you have any questions in regards to training or equipment, please
don't hesitate to contact either of us.
Let's get cracking!
Josh and Rob
A message from the President
Hi all,
We just had the Presidents Meeting - there's no update on COVID vaccination
policies from the government yet but should be by next week. Our position
as a committee is to encourage you to get vaccinated but understand
there's reasons not to such as medical etc. We'll be guided by the government/Cricket
Victoria on our policy however and will be enforced.
Option 1 for Senior fixturing is a start date of 13 November for all
grades finishing on 18 December with a 3 week break with all grades
returning 15th January. The last round will be 5th March with finals
over the next 2 weeks with 3 reserve days for Grand Finals.
Option 2 is if the season starts on the 20th, we will only break for
2 weeks over Christmas.
There's other options but we'll cover those off as we get closer to
a start date.
All in all, the more of us that get the jab, the closer we get to getting
out of this shit show and we can be back drinking great northerns on
the deck.
Anyone got a player sponsor yet? Currently the skipper of the 1st XI
and the President have. I'd love to see a few more come in.
Shout out if there's any questions but we'll know more next week.
Cheers, Moose.
(A message from the MPCA)
Dear Member Clubs
The MPCA Board would like to confirm that due to current COVID restrictions
and timelines required to complete a 2 Day/1 Day competition,
the 2021/22 MPCA Season will be played as a 14 Game One Day Competition.
Rd 1 to 7 will be White Clothing/Red Ball and Rd 8 to 14 and Finals
will be played in Coloured Clothing/White Ball format as per 2020/21.
No start date can be confirmed as yet, we are in discussions currently
with CV and Local Councils
regarding other aspects to do with what is required to Train/Play this
coming season due to the
uncertainty of COVID and will communicate info regarding this as soon
as we can.
There will be flexibility required within the fixture to ensure we
complete a season.
Further details regarding fixtures and its structure will be provided
at the
Presidents Meeting on 22nd September.

Senior Captains | 2021/22
We're pleased to announce our senior captains for the upcoming 2021/22
season.
1st XI - Tom Boxell
Womens - Taylor Mullins
2nd XI - Peter Edwards
3rd XI - Stephen Hocking
4th XI - Curtis Lang
5th XI - Laurie Hall
6th XI - Matthew Green
7th XI - Luke Forsyth & Graham French
8th XI - Stebin Stephen

into success! Bring on Provincial!
Howdy all,
Hope everyone is going ok!
Please see below comments from Cricket Victoria - we're clearly delayed
until we hit 70% minimum vaccination...
which fingers crossed is end of October.
So we're definitely looking at a season of one day games which you can
assume will start as the same time as last season.
I'll receive an outline from the league in a couple of weeks of what
it looks like plus a presidents meeting the week after to confirm it.
Fingers crossed we can ramp up very small group non official training
soon with hopefully some restrictions
easing with outdoor exercise hours & amount of people able to train
together at first dose 70% which we'll hit by 23 September at worst.
We'll be announcing captains for the season shortly so keep an eye out
for that leadership announcement.
Any questions or anti vax weird facebook videos, shout out.
Cheers, Moose.

Life Membership | Michael John Burke
Burkey was made a life member of Long Island Cricket Club at the recent
Presentation Night.
Buttheads played over 250 games with the club, with over 200 in the
1st XI culminating in 4 1st XI flags,
across his 11 flags over his junior & senior career at the club.
Burkeys won 6 Wayne Ross / Peter Conell 1st XI batting awards with over
7,000 club runs, coached the senior club,
captained the club for 3 years & has coached within the junior program
for the last 4 years.
He's also famous for stitching up a few senior players with his now
infamous cocktails, fallen asleep on many nights,
as well as sung us many a tune over the journey especially with the
old jukebox.
He's a well deserved inductee to the life membership club.
Congratulations Mick!

Life Membership | James Khan
Khany was made a life member of Long Island Cricket Club at the recent
Presentation Night.
Khany has played 238 senior games, won 2 x 4th XI Premierships, won
the Player of the Year Award,
the President’s Award and Best Clubman Award. Handy at both, he
averages 19 with the ball and 19 with the bat.
What we love about Khany is he is a giver - he has served on the committee
for the past 15 years which is an extraordinary achievement
- longevity and willingness to put his hand up to do whatever the club
needs
- from stocking the bar, the odd nude run when the night is getting
quiet or turning up from a winery tour and ruining a good comedy night.
Khany is a great Long Island person who bowls left arm wobblers, makes
runs (thought we nearly lost him when he made his first 100 in the heat)
and a well deserved inductee to the life membership club.
Well done Khany!

Life Membership | Nathan Ross
Rosso was made a life member of Long Island Cricket Club at the recent
presentation night.
Rosso has played 211 games with 4 senior premierships with the most
famous being his 0* in the 99/00 1st XI flag
in an important 10th wicket partnership with Arnie to win!
Taking 371 wickets at 19 over his career which is an amazing effort
for a nude bowler.
Not overly known for his batting, he averaged 43 in the mid 90s (he
made 43 runs for the season).
Rosso has also won the Gordie McLeod medal voted as the best player
for the club in 18/19, the inaugural Bob Kent & Presidents award.
Rosso has been a great clubman serving on committee over a number of
years, literally growing up at the club
with his Dad Wayne one of our founding members & running many a
weird trivia night with questions no-one understands apart from Hally.
Nathan joins his Mum & Dad as life members of our club. Congrats
Rosso!
